LOL The Eagles were stoned? Shock and surprise. Many musicians back than were and they wrote some great fucken music as a result.

Definitely not going to rule out drugs as being inspiration for SOME of the imagery for this song, but definitely keep in mind that at the time of this very recording, the Eagles themselves were very far from any kind of drug awakening.. they were stoned out of their minds almost all of the time (as said by the band members themselves), and so I scratch my head when people say the song is about some kind of aftermath from drug abuse when they were enjoying it thoroughly at the time.
